Volvo Ocean Race - Cape Town Stopover

Alicante a taste of things ahead for Cape Town

The Volvo Ocean Race officially opened their doors to the public last Friday, and the thousands of visitors that flooded into the race village over the weekend were clearly loving the experience. For Cape Town, it was a sign of things to come, as plans continue to go ahead at full steam for the opening of the V & A Waterfront race village in late November.

Proving exceptionally popular with younger visitors are the Air Balls, which has been inundated with children keen to do battle on the pool inside huge clear-plastic globes decorated with the route of the forthcoming race around the world.

Out on the water, race village visitors can have the opportunity to sail in the Volvo Ocean Race Academy 'Try Sailing' initiative.

For the 'wannabe' ocean racers, the simulator will give a sensory experience of life at full speed aboard an Open 70, complete with noise, rock n roll and water, and then off course, you may just want to stand and gaze in awe at the boats themselves. The 6 Open 70's will be on display to show the fans what a state-of-the-art racing monohull looks like 'in the flesh'.
